Twenty one years on Mallorca Cricket Club still has within its ranks Chairman and all-rounder Paul Heaton who also counts groundsman duties amongst his many talents; current first X1 skipper and wicket keeper Eric George; Sunday skipper Malcolm Leggett who still turns his arm to some effect and all-rounder Hijazy Yaseen all of whom still play on a regular basis. Peter Nalty and Brian Salter still turn out for the odd game; long serving playing member and Hon. Secretary James Bodsworth came into the club in 1990 and scorer Wendy Peters picked up her pens around 1988 and remains ‘part of the furniture’. This pictorial montage gives a flavour of the early days in Mallorca Cricket Club’s second ‘home’ which was at the Santa Ponsa Football ground. Life was tough then; the players had to haul out the heavy coconut matting before each game, unroll it and perform the same exhausting task after the match…that wouldn’t go down too well these days! It’s good to see the fresh faced images of yesteryear…barely a grey hair in sight…but most of those faces are still around…and long may they be so!

! WENDY PETERS AND MALLORCA PRESIDENT AND UMPIRE ALBERT SLACK ON HIS RETIREMENT    ALBERT SLACK'S LAST APPEARANCE AS UMPIRE AT THE MCG 2006       ALBERT SLACK WHO UMPIRED FOR MALLORCA CRICKET CLUB IMPECCABLY - HIS CALL OF 'IT'S A WIDE' IS SADLY MISSED     THE UMPIRES OFFICIATING AT THE CRYPTICS V MALLORCA MATCH APRIL 2006

The comment ‘not an umpire in sight’ from our now sadly retired esteemed umpire, Mr. Albert Slack from Scotland prompted this hasty addition and a heartfelt apology to his Lordship for the dreadful oversight.

personal complaint - not an umpire in sight. There must have been one at sometime!

I remember with fond memories the times dad would take us to the cricket club.He was very proud of what he achieved during those early days,if he was'nt playing he would be umpiring.Best wishes to all connected to the Club.

Steve Nalty, you will never let us forget your feat of an unbeaten 165 in the heat of Madrid!I didn't have a photo to hand Steve, sorry! Good to hear from you; also from our 'diminutive Sri Lankan' Shafeek...to witness an 'on song' Shafeek dispatching the ball for six with his wonderful effortless timing was a sight to behold...we all miss you Shafeek and can't wait for your return!

I am delighted to learn that you are coming back to take up where I left off as  an umpire. If you are as good as an umpire as you were as an allrounder you will be an asset to the game. You have the cool temperament and love of the game that helps to inspire confidence and acceptance of your decisions by players.I hope to be in Mallorca for two weeks at the beginning of May and I hope our paths cross.           Albert.
