Abstract: IT MAY HAVE BEEN TEMPTING PROVIDENCE STAGING 'BONFIRE NIGHT TAKE TWO' ON FRIDAY 13TH, BUT IT WENT WITHOUT A HITCH AND EVERYONE HAD FUN!

BONFIRE NIGHT – TAKE TWO!

Six days after the fifteenth annual Bonfire Night was literally blown out by gale force winds Mallorca Cricket Club once again opened its gates last Friday evening for ‘Bonfire Night – Take Two’. Around four hundred faithful followers turned up to enjoy the spectacle of two huge bonfires blazing brightly in the night sky. Despite the lack of a firework display the spirit of Guy Fawkes prevailed. There was music; children cavorted around brandishing their sparklers and indulging in toffee apples and gingerbread men, whilst the adults were able to relax with a glass of cheer in the balmy evening air. Since Bonfire Night is the cricket club’s only fundraiser of the year club funds will have suffered badly, however, looking on the positive side, it seems that a certain amount of goodwill has been established within the local community by staging this successful free event.
