| SUTTON CC CONTINUE THEIR WINNING WAYS V MALLORCA'S SUNDAY X1 |

Mallorca Sunday X1’s 40 over match against the visitors began with the homeside losing the toss. John Fordham and Paul Liddiard’s opening partnership was short-lived when Rob Hughes had Fordham trapped LBW for 9 with the score on 19. Max Lewis, sporting colourful headgear, joined Liddiard to produce a useful second wicket stand before Lewis was out to a catch by Hughes off Qamar-Shahzad for 23 with 61 on the board. At drinks with the score on 79 for 2 Mallorca were in optimistic mood. Dan Krayenbrink opened his account with a boundary, but was caught by Richard Martin off Qamar-Shahzad for 19 with the score on 93. Liddiard’s stolid innings came to an end in Qamar-Shahzad’s final over, the Pakistani skittling the wickets and sending Liddiard back to the dressing room with 34 to his credit and 105 on the board. Mallorca’s hopes of containing the visitors were soon dashed when Dave Hoskins and Sam Schofield got their heads down to take the score to 144, but Martin’s raucous second appeal for LBW against Hoskins was upheld and Hoskins was walking; his contribution 23. Dan Edwards and Schofield upped the ante, Schofield attained his half-century and went on to finish unbeaten on an impressive 55 in just forty minutes at the crease. Edwards, with a flurry of boundaries, hit an unbeaten 32 in just twenty four minutes bringing the final score to 214 for 5 from forty overs.
Babar Qamar-Shahzad returned figures of 8-1-29-3. Jack Scholes was economical with: 6-0-11-1.
Rob Hughes: 8-33-1.
Babar Qamar-Shahzad and Rob Hughes got Mallorca’s innings off to a flier posting 36 off five overs, but Hughes fell to a catch by ‘keeper Schofield off Edwards for 17 with the score on 40. Terry Mott was trapped LBW by Quinton for 5 with 51 scored. When Qamar-Shahzad was also trapped LBW by Quinton for 28 with the score at 77 Mallorca’s fortunes began to fade. Sam Sztumpf’s fifteen minutes at the crease produced a further dozen runs but Edwards held a catch off Hall and his stint was over. Andy Diamond had made 8 when he was bowled by Tom Hatton with the score on 109. Max Cansfield failed to trouble the scorer, he was unfortunately run out before he’d faced a ball. It was all downhill from that point despite Scholes stoically holding things together as Martin and Clemence came and went. Scholes was finally dislodged with a caught and bowled feat by Hatton for a valuable 25. Fordham accounted for Ged Scott’s wicket and Simon Burnett finished on 5 not out with Mallorca’s Sunday X1 dismissed for 122 in thirty one overs.
Tom Hatton impressed returning figures of: 5-2-10-3.
It hardly needs pointing out that Mallorca’s three sides have yet to win a match this season, but 1st X1 skipper Eric George remarked that playing these superior sides, many of which have professional cricketers in their ranks, puts Mallorca on a great learning curve. “It’s the only way to improve if you’re stretched.”

By all accounts a great time was had by all; which is supported by the article, newspaper items, and website photos! Thank you for making our club so welcome.......I wonder if one day we might reciprocate! (Can't guarantee the weather though!)
As I'm sure all our members would be very interested in the week-end's escapades, would you mind us providing a link to your site from: www.suttoncricketclub.com ? I hope that's OK with you.
Beat regards and enjoy the rest of your season.
