Abstract: AWARDS DINNER AT THE GLITTERING FERNANDO'S UTOPIA RESTAURANT IN PORT ADRIANO WAS HUGELY SUCCESSFUL.
Mallorca Cricket Club’s Annual Dinner Dance at Fernando’s Utopia Restaurant in Port Adriano on Friday evening was attended by more than seventy club members and friends including Her Majesty’s Consul Mr. Paul Abrey and Calvia’s Deputy Mayor Kate Mentink. It was a hugely successful event. Club Chairman Andrew Clemence’s amusing post dinner speech, which preceded the awards, hit exactly the right note. He also thanked the Majorca Daily Bulletin and Luna Radio for their support during the year and went on to say how successful the club had been in their charity fundraising events. The first player to be honoured was young Daniel Clemence who was named the Most Improved Player of the Year. His father, who commented that Daniel was ‘out chasing girls’ received the trophy in his absence. Fielder of the Year went to ‘Yorkshire Terrier’ Neil Cook; Malcolm Leggett was surprised and patently delighted to pick up the Bowler of the Year trophy; Malcolm is a founder member of the Club which began some twenty two years ago. Batsman of the Year was quite deservedly won by the prolific Steve Bell; unfortunately Steve was unable to attend due to business commitments abroad. Clubman of the Year went to Jeff Hilton. There was no fanfare or roll of drums to herald Mallorca Cricket Club’s Player of the Year award, nonetheless tension mounted as MC Frank Leavers finally announced that dependable all rounder Jon Barratt had been awarded the club’s highest accolade, the trophy was presented by Mr. Paul Abrey.
